Jesse Marshall is a postdoctoral fellow in the lab. As a PhD student with Mark Schnitzer at Stanford he developed and applied new optical tools for cell-type specific recordings of neuronal transmembrane voltage and intracellular calcium in freely moving animals. In the Ölveczky lab he is interested in understanding the computational principles underlying motor sequence learning — how the neuronal networks supporting motor learning are engaged and reconfigured to turn stilted movements into fluid and stereotyped motor sequences.
